The VATSIM P1 Online Pilot course is designed as a basic overview of connecting to and flying on the VATSIM network while interacting with ATC. This course is not meant to teach the student how to fly their aircraft or how to navigate, but rather a "get online and fly" guide.
Everything the student needs to know to pass the course is located in the P1 Training Guide, which is found in the Course Materials link below and on the Academy main page. Once enrolled, the student receives a welcome letter detailing what the student can expect from the P1 course and a step by step guide to complete it.

The course is split into three parts; the written exam, the oral exam, and the practical (over-the-shoulder or OTS) exam. An 80% or higher score is required to pass all three exams.
Upon passing the OTS exam, the course is completed and the pilot is awarded the following:
|Pilots Pending Approval:||7|
|Total Hours Flown:||236,341|
